Default L.Woodley in ESPN leagues

I have multiple leagues on ESPN and anyone who has played on ESPN or Yahoo, knows that they are not the most accurate in the position labels.

L.Woodley is listed a LB/DE in ESPN leagues which gives a huge advantage to play a productive LB at DE. In the past, D.Ware was the same way but they finally corrected that this year when they made their updates for the 2009 FF season.

Anyway... the point of this thread is to warn those taking advantage of the DE availability that it's going away next year. Some may have noticed that ESPN took away the DE designation briefly . They forgot to change Woodley to LB only in the 2009 update and then apparently caught their mistake and just changed it after there were coutless drafts completed. I sent in a complaint about restricting a players available positions after drafts were completed and how that change effects the drafts already completed. ESPN actually did change it back (ESPN has never properly responded to my request for a designated KR starting position, but that's an entirely different thread). If your in a keeper or dynasty league on ESPN and your not going to be in the running to win it this year, trade Woodley before your trade cut off week for max value this year.... while he still has DE availability. It looks like it's pretty much garunteed he won't have it next year. He's a good LB, but he's a great DE and if you can get great DE value... that's a win for your team.

Default Other guys

Just to follow up with the post, I know that Aaron Kampman and Calvin Pace are both listed as LB/DE too.

ESPN figures positions by what they playin the NFL. If a player plays a certain number of snaps in a position, then ESPN gives that player the position.... so Suggs could remain a DE/LB.

As far as I'm aware of Orakpo, Spencer, and Matthews are only DE in all of my leagues on ESPN this year, but it could depend on the inception of your league. They are attempting to correct their mistakes and may have made the change for leagues that drafted later, but allowed DE/LB for leagues that drafted really early.... don't know on that. I only complained about Woodley because Orakpo was listed as only DE when that draft happened less then a week ago.

I have Woodley in a few espn leagues and am keeping him when he gets switched to LB. 'm pretty happy with him as an LB in my MFL leagues.

Yes that is true but also they get that label by the position they are drafted out of college. I contacted ESPN early on in the game and they played around with the positions. Woodley has changed a couple times. Demarcus Ware was labeled as a DE last year and was by far the best player at that position. Spencer his counter part in the 3-4 is labeled a DE. As is Woodley and Harrison. It doesnt make alot of sense to me to have to LB's in a 3-4 as different positions. They simply switch from strong to weak side. I thought using a stat of hand on the ground but they say its not a stat thats accounted for.
